Olive Oil Community Center
Date: 2023
Material: Sandstone
Location: Ermita de Montalegre, Spain
Program: Olive Oil Community Center
The Olive Oil Community Center is part of a series of conceptual architecture projects which investigates the use of a regional stone in architectural production. In this case sandstone is implemented in the design, located in the western Pre-Pyrenees of Spain. A series of sandstone houses are envisioned to provide a shared place for locals to press their yearly olive harvest. The shared resources consist of a drying room, an olive grinder, an olive press, as well as a bottling and storage space. These tools support the existing traditions of olive oil production in the region. Through a close collaboration with local stone masons, builders, and farmers, this project would result in a community oriented design process - ensuring the spatial needs and local economy are supported.
